2024 EY Mentorship Program Kick-Off

Given the vast array of career paths available, mentorship programs serve as indispensable resources for business students, offering them invaluable insights into professional life and aiding in the refinement of their career objectives. To facilitate students' navigation through the complexities of the professional realm and enhance their understanding of various industries, the Business Career Development Committee (BizCare) has collaborated with EY to introduce the EY Mentorship Programme. This 10-week initiative provides structured networking opportunities and comprehensive learning experiences across four distinct disciplines: Assurance, Consulting, Strategy & Transactions and Tax.

Ernst & Young (EY), a leading member of the Big 4 accounting firms, delivers comprehensive consulting, assurance, tax, and transaction services globally. Through a dedicated mentorship program led by EY professionals, students gain invaluable networking opportunities spanning diverse disciplines. This initiative not only offers firsthand insight into Big 4 firms and the wider professional service industry but also provides a platform to connect with experienced professionals, fostering practical experience and knowledge.

Spanning 10 weeks, the mentorship program maintains a maximum 1:2 mentor-mentee ratio, ensuring robust relationships and tailored guidance. With this ratio, mentors can offer personalized advice, providing mentees with differentiated support aligned with their unique goals and aspirations. The program timeline includes two official mentorship sessions and a mid-term evaluation, fostering structured engagement and progress assessment. Additionally, mentors and mentees are encouraged to initiate additional sessions as needed, promoting ongoing support and development opportunities beyond the formal framework. The program culminates in a closing ceremony in June, recognizing the growth and achievements of both mentors and mentees. Through this mentorship initiative, EY aims to empower students with the skills, knowledge, and networks needed to excel in their future careers.

The mentorship program's opening ceremony commenced with a networking session, allowing mentees to interact freely with mentors. The session was followed by announcements of pairing, and ice-breaking activities for paired mentor-mentees to foster deeper connections. In the first mentoring session, mentees were asked to prepare their resumes in advance. Based on the resume, professionals from EY gave guidance on self-introduction and goal-setting. By talking to mentors one-on-one, mentees could also ask about experiences working in the professional service industry and their roles at EY. Mentees will prepare personal branding worksheets and update resumes based on shared tips, alongside identifying EY job postings of interest, for subsequent mentoring sessions. This structured approach ensures mentees are well-prepared for future engagements, enabling them to maximize the benefits of the mentorship program and align their career goals effectively.

The EY Mentorship Programme serves as a valuable platform for business students, offering them profound insights into the intricacies of the industry while addressing their inquiries. The program provides invaluable practical knowledge and skills tailored to the demands of the professional service industry, equipping students with the tools necessary for success in their future endeavors. By facilitating meaningful interactions between students and industry professionals, the program not only broadens horizons but also empowers students to make informed decisions about their career trajectories.

Post-Event Opinions from Students

It was a great experience that this session let me understand the work culture of EY and also the way they work. The best part of this first session was that I could get feedback and could set detailed actions for achieving my future goals
