Digital marketing has become an indispensable component of modern commerce due to the proliferation of internet usage and the rise of e-commerce. As consumers spend an ever-increasing amount of time online, businesses must have a robust digital presence to connect with their target market. Digital marketing offers an efficient means of reaching consumers where they are most active and offers numerous channels through which they can be engaged. So how does one get started with digital marketing and what were some challenges faced along the way? To address these queries the Business Career Development Committee (BizCare) invited Performance and Digital Marketing Manager at M1 Limited, Andy Ang, and assistant marketing manager at Make a Wish SG, Lim Ying Ying.
Andy Ang's initial foray into the realm of marketing occurred upon the establishment of his own enterprise while he was still in university. He pursued a Bachelor of Business degree with a specialization in Marketing at Singapore Management University and employed Facebook advertisements as a means of generating income for his entrepreneurial venture. On the other hand, Lim Ying Ying boasts six years of professional experience in the marketing field. Prior to her current position, she served as a Social Media Content Strategist for Shopee. Afterwards, she progressed to Make a Wish SG, a non-profit organization, where she developed emotional content aimed at eliciting an empathetic response and encouraging individuals to make a charitable contribution. Both individuals embarked on a quest of discovery, immersing themselves in a diverse array of subjects and disciplines, until they ultimately arrived at a deep-seated affection for the marketing sector.
Both reached a common consensus that the digital marketing sector is continuously evolving and presents a range of obstacles that companies must overcome to succeed. One of the main challenges is keeping pace with changing technology. With new platforms and technologies emerging, it is vital that companies stay abreast of these developments to remain competitive. Efficiently connecting with the target audience and effectively communicating the relevant message is a challenge faced by both parties. The surplus of information and material available online makes it challenging for organizations to successfully reach their desired demographic with their message. Furthermore, the digital marketing industry is highly competitive, requiring organizations to continuously innovate and modify their strategies to maintain a competitive edge. Overall, digital marketing presents numerous challenges, and companies must be proactive and adaptable to overcome these obstacles and succeed in the digital arena.
Post-Panel Opinions from the Audience
“The talk was very insightful, where the speakers shared their own experiences and the importance of knowing what you want to achieve in life: find a job that gives stability or a job that your are passionate about. The questions posed during the Q&A session was something that I can really take away from this sharing and consider if I want to further my horizons when exploring potential internship and job opportunities.” ~ Jerome Chong, Y1 Real Estate
