SGX Group-NUS Sustainability Challenge 2025

Updated: 2 days ago

On 26th February 2025, the SGX Group-NUS Sustainability Challenge 2025 Finals took place at NUS Business School. The five participating teams showcased their innovative ideas aimed at solving real-life sustainability challenges to our distinguished panel of judges.

This year, the SGX Group–NUS Sustainability Challenge saw an overwhelming response for sign-ups, with over 100 teams from students across Singapore submitting their innovative sustainability solutions. After two rigorous rounds of selection, five finalist teams emerged to present their proposals to a distinguished panel of judges: Mr. Michael Tang (Executive Director, Head of Listing Policy & Product Admission and Sustainable Development Office at SGX Group), Professor Lawrence Loh (Director of the Centre for Governance and Sustainability at NUS Business School), and Mr. Akash Verma (Postdoctoral Research Fellow of NUS Centre for Nature-based Climate Solutions).

Each finalist team delivered an impressive presentation, showcasing their dedication, creativity, and deep understanding of sustainability challenges. Their outstanding performance, both in their proposals and the rigorous Q&A session, left a lasting impression on the judges.

After careful deliberation, the top three teams emerged: ECONNOVATORS claimed the championship, followed by NUS-NTU Sustainability Alliance securing 1st Runner Up, and Team Sustainovators earning 2nd Runner Up. Congratulations to all finalists for their hard work and inspiring ideas.

This competition provided participants with invaluable insights into what sustainability within the business context entails.

Ophelia from Team Visionaries shared that the team “learnt a lot about different sustainability frameworks, which are relevant to how companies will report their sustainability efforts in future. Additionally, the topic of sustainability offers much room for exploration”.

While recognising that the future of the sustainability sector is volatile, Team NUS-NTU Sustainability Alliance remains positive of future sustainability trends and highlighted the importance for companies to continue innovating regardless of size. “This was a meaningful experience for us in understanding the practicality of the climate change process and how we can move forward to a low carbon society,” they commented.

When asked about the takeaways when reflecting on the whole preparation process, Jing Wen from Team Sustainovators said that she learnt the importance of having good time management and believing in themselves. “We started off with a lot of doubts on whether our direction was correct as we had different interpretations of the case materials, so it was important for us to trust our judgment in the process.”

For Team ECONNOVATORS, this experience provided them with valuable skills as well. “We learnt to piece different problems together and look at them from the macro perspective. While it was indeed a steep learning curve, we’re grateful to have won and were able to gain better presentation skills”.

The Business Career Development Committee (BizCare) is proud to have collaborated with Singapore Exchange (SGX Group) to organize this event. BizCare Case Competition Head Zheng Xian stated that “SGX and BizCare are familiar with each other, so we had good communication and were able to work in a clear direction.”

Bizcare would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to all participants for their dedication in preparing and presenting their ideas, coming up with innovative solutions to address sustainability challenges. Your hard work and creativity have been truly impressive. Once again, congratulations to the top 3 winners for their exceptional performance!
